In traditional ornamental plaster fittings, damage can occur due to substrate failure - ie. the attachment of the moulding may have detriorated, which can result in the fitting loosening and potentially becoming unsafe. This usually occurs only in original period fittings which have been in place for decades. However, this can be a sign of structural damage to a roof - if this is the case, look for other tell-tale evidence such as water intrusion or stress related cracks surrounding the fittings. We are able to detect these on your behalf and it is crucial that these are first fixed and the ceiling or wall is restored before a plaster moulding can be replaced.

In simpler, more usual cases, decorative plasterwork can be restored through careful cleaning or by replacing sections of coving or dado that have been damaged. For very ornamental work, a sample can be taken and used for remoulding an exact replica model of the plaster product which can then be used to bridge any gaps or to replace missing corbels, cornices, ceiling roses or medallions.

Due to the expertise required to match historical plasterwork exactly and remould pieces to restore older decorative plaster, whilst installing them safely with attention to attachment being key, with a tight fit against the wall or ceiling required and the correct type of adhesive and coarse threaded galvonised screws being used when needed.
